| Anderson County was home to more than 80 sawmills
(East Texas Sawmill Database©). The Billup and Hanks Steam
Mill located in the community of Plentitude in 1847. The largest
number of mills operating in any one decade was in 1900-1909, when
17 mills are known to have been in business. By 1950, four or five
mills were operating at any one time. W.E. Moore Lumber Company,
Angelina Hardwood Sales Co. and Elkhart Lumber Company were among
these later mills.
