| Description |
|
|
Headquartered in the
town of Keltys, the Angelina & Neches River Railroad began as
a short line railroad to move logs from the East Texas woods to the
mills of the Angelina County Lumber Co. The railroads inventory stood
at one locomotive, three box cars, and a passenger car in 1910. The
Camp Nancy tram-building operations near Zavalla, with the use of
slipscrapers and mule teams, could pick up and lay down eight miles
of track a day. The A&NRR major client became Southland Paper
at Lufkin and in 1974 had 9.99 miles of track.
Marker is located at 2225 Spence St. Lufkin.
