Inventor and designer Daniel Webster Martin developed various wagons
for use in the lumber industry. The company’s operated a steam
circular sawmill with two mills, edgers and trimmers. Hardwoods
were used for manufacturing a variety of logging wagons, carts,
buggies, and school buses. The company employed over 100 workers
in the Lufkin area. Martin wagons were distributed all over the
United States, Mexico, and South America. Oil field buggies and
wagons were also manufactured. In 1939, the business was sold to
Lufkin Foundry and evolved into Lufkin Industries Trailer Division.
The only known Martin Wagon still in existence is exhibited at
the Texas Forestry Museum.
The marker is located at Lufkin Ave. at Fourth St. in Lufkin.
