Description  
Black Freedmen established Center Point around 1873. The Industrial Union was chartered in 1889 to aid settlers in buying farms and building homes. Several lumber mills were established in the late 1890s and early 1900s. Some mills, such as the V. Slayton Patridge mill and Jones and Smith Lumber Co. used horses and 50-horsepower steam engines.
