The Metropolitan Church Association, commonly called the Burning Bush Society, established the colony in 1913. This 400-member Burning Bush colony was self-sustaining and operated its own school, sawmill, and power plant. The mill was called the Metropolitan Institute of Texas. It processed rough and finished lumber.

Located at US 69 right-of-way, .25 mil. South of Bullard.
