Elijah Earle and his wife migrated from Alabama and came to Prairie
Branch in early 1846. Elijah built a mill on the Prairie Branch
and they donated four acres for schools as the community grew. Rev.
E.P. Rogers of the East Texas Conference of the Methodist Church
officially organized Earle’s Chapel Society. The church building
was constructed of logs and an adjacent cemetery continues to serve
the community.
Marker is located 4 miles W of Jacksonville off of US 79 on CR
3221.
