| Description |

Fastrill, located on the company-owned railroad, was a major logging
camp and town owned by Southern Pine Lumber Company in Diboll. There
were as many as four woods crews working out of Fastrill, each working
in a different section of the surrounding timber. Most "front
camps" were temporary locations to cut timber then dismantled
as the timber in the area was gone. Fastrill was unusual because
of the length of time it was in operation, 1922-1941, and the size
with as many as 600 residents. Families were given use of land and
implements to create gardens, which could then be processed in the
company-owned cannery. The company also provide a general store,
a barber shop, cleaning & pressing shop, gas pump, structures
to hold worship and electrical power at certain hours.
The marker is located on FM 23, 11 miles south of Rusk
