Settled in 1850 the village of Gent is located at the top of Gent Mountain between two creeks. The E.S. Bolton mill was located near Gent, and used oxen to transport lumber to Jacksonville for home building. Construction of the Texas State Railroad from Rusk to Palestine and the founding of Maydelle pulled business away from Gent. Gradually the village and surrounding mills were abandoned.

Marker is located at FM 2138 3 miles N of Maydelle.
