Harrison
County has been the home to more than 125 sawmills, beginning with
several mills operating in the Teacup community as noted in the
1850 Census of Industry. About half of the mills recorded were located
in or near Marshall or Hallsville. At least thirty-eight mills operated
in the county in the decade 1900 - 1910 (East Texas Sawmill Database©),
as represented by George E. Prothro mill in Hallsville, the Bivins
Lumber Company in Talley, and the Flewellen Lumber Company in Marshall.
Marker is located in a roadside park on US 80, 5.9 miles east of
US 59.
