Historicial Development: James Moore operated a steam circular sawmill in Liberty County in 1879 to 1880. The Manuscript Census of 1880, reporting for June 1, 1879 to May 31, 1880, detailed the business operations of the sawmill. The sawmill, d a capital value of $1,000, worked eight men at peak,and five normally. The employees received daily wages of $.65 to $2.00 for ten-hour days. Moore paid a total wage of $200. From a total value of $550 of supplies and sawlogs, the sawmill manufactured 100,000 feet of lumber. The sawmill operated five of the reporting period's twelve months.
