historical development: Retrieve was a sawmill town, located near Shawnee Creek, between Huntington and Zavalla. It was serviced by the Texas & New Orleans. A sawmill was built about 1902 and was sold to Fairchild in 1905. He closed it in 1908. Fairchild may have operated later a sawmill at Fairchild Switch, four miles south of Lufkin, about 1913.
