historical development: The Grimes Sawmill at Crockett is listed in the 1957 Directory of Wood-Using and Related Industries in East Texas. The Directory of Texas Manufacturers 1956-1958 noted that the mill, established in 1939, was a sole proprietorship owned by Ed Grimes. The mill manufactured rough and finished pine lumber and rough hardwood lumber with less than fifty employees.
