| historical development: | The Frank Craddock multi-purpose mill manufactured lumber and ground meal. Valued at $4,000, it had raw materials including $614 in sawlogs and $4,200 worth of corn. It carried a monthly payroll of four men averaging $15 each. It produced 314,000 feet of lumber valued at $1,400 and 3,700 bushels of cornmeal valued at $4,800. Aldrich, quoting the Crockett Printer of November 11, 1860, noted that lumber ?was dressed by hand. . . . and will grind (corn) on Wednesdays. He also advertises that he will grind wheat into the highest grade of flour for one-sixth toll. He states his mill will saw 32-foot lumber if necessary.? |
