historical development: B. D. Cline and H. Pegoda were active sawmillers in the counties of Houston and Montgomery and elsewhere around 1900. They co-owned a sawmill located about three miles south of Lovelady. In February, 1902, Pegoda bought out Cline?s one-half interest in the plant. Equipment transferred included the steam machinery, a planer, three log wagons, and fifteen work oxen. The Southern Industrial and Lumber Review reported Pegoda?s mill to be cutting 10,000 feet of lumber daily in 1906. Pegoda had been sawmilling and grist milling in Houston County since about 1895. His brothers, George and William Pegoda, operated the Possum Walk sawmill in Walker County. According to W. T. Block, Cline had interests in as many as thirty-six sawmills in six counties during his career.
