Jim Berkley
Hersheld Williams referred to a Jim Berkley sawmill in the Larissa in an interview with Grady C. Singletary. According to Williams, Berkley was running a steam mill as early as the 1850s, cutting lumber for Larissa College. The mill blew up. Berkley left the area, coming back about 1885 “‘after the white folks were not so hard on the Negro folks. ”
