W. D. Johnson

W. D. Johnson sawmilled in Cherokee County in 1900. Chattel mortgages reveal he had a right-hand No. 2 Dixie sawmill, a 3-saw Tower edger, 42-inch blocks, Dixie dogs, and an 11-inch by 12-inch Ames steam engine. A series of chattel mortgages in 1907 and 1908 reveal that Johnston had a planing machine and was shipping carloads of lumber. By 1909, W. D. Johnston was involved with veneer milling as well as sawmilling, according to county records.
