The William S. Menard saw and grist mill was powered by oxen, and its owner reported to have had $1700 invested in the operation, $700 of which was invested in the lumber business. The owner and probably a helper manufactured 100,000 feet of lumber (valued at $1000) in 1860. The corn meal produced during the same year was valued at $1500.
