San Jacinto Hardwood Company
The San Jacinto Lumber Company name appeared in a $6,000 mortgage with Peoples Bank of Shepherd in February, 1952. The mill was described as being situated “on Jack Tribe land on the north side of Shepherd.” A 1953 mortgage reveals that the mill was powered by a diesel unit. In 1956, the company mortgaged a Yates planer and an International power unit, located on Frome property west of Shepherd. It appeared in the 1957 edition of Nelson T. Samson's Directory of Wood-Using and Related Industries in East Texas.
