Liberty Lumber Company

A new Liberty Lumber Company, with Herman C. Miller, Sr., of Liberty, as proprietor, was erected in the spring of 1909. This company should not be confused with an earlier Liberty Lumber Company owned by Charles N. Fisher, R., and Daniel M. Fleming, which was greatly damaged in the hurricane of 1897.
Miller's first big order came in June 1909 when T. A. Lowe and Son of Brenham purchased 75,000 feet of lumber. W. N. Tucker, Miller's sawyer, was injured that summer of 1909, when a log struck him.
