Smith & Jackson
Smith & Jackson were listed in a Santa Fe Circular of 1904 at Dolan, two miles south of Rayburn, and in the Reference Book of the Lumbermen's Credit Association January rating of 1905 at Rayburn, but not in the 1907 LCA book. They did, however, in that year, lease five county convicts from Judge Black Simmons' court for work in apparently their logging operation for the sawmill. The monthly price per inmate was $7.50. One of the convicts, an African-American named Marvin Moore, escaped later the next April, after overpowering and injuring Constable J. W. Smith.
