James M. Anderson
James M. Anderson ran a 12-horsepower steam sawmill somewhere in Angelina County during the census year ending June 1, 1860. He employed six hands, paid $200 total in wages monthly, and had $3000 invested in the business at the time. The Special Census Records at the Texas State Library in Austin are difficult to read, but it appears the mill produced at least one million feet of lumber (valued at between $5500 and $12,000) during the census year.
