Lufkin Manufacturing Company

Two letterheads from June and November of 1896, which are found in the Forest History Collection at Stephen F. Austin State University, Nacogdoches, reveal that the Lufkin Manufacturing Company was based in Lufkin as “manufacturers of yellow pine lumber.” An Angelina County timber deed record of 1895 indicated that W.H. Bonner, the Lufkin Manufacturing Company's treasurer, purchased timber about “eight miles westwardly from the town of Lufkin.” The company participated in a joint tram operation, the Lufkin South & Southeastern.
