Southern Pine Lumber Co logging camp at Alcedo

H. Matthews, when interviewed by Vernon L. Beasley, reported that he remembered the Alcedo logging camp in Angelina County in 1924. It belonged to the Southern Pine Lumber Company. The camp was portable; the tenant houses could be moved by rail. The company had a commissary, a meat market, and a drug store for the employees and their families. Reba Redd Parker recalled that the camp operated from at least 1925 to 1928, when it was closed. Most of the employees moved to the Southern Pine Lumber logging front at Camp Fastrill in Cherokee County.
