Wherry Lumber Company
The Wherry Brothers saw and planing mills at Neches appeared in the 1905 and 1907 reference books of the Lumbermen's Credit Association. The company changed names to the Wherry Lumber Company by 1910. In that year, a Cherokee County chattel mortgage refers to Wherry Lumber accepting a mortgage for a sawmill outfit from E. F. and W. A. P. Harrison.
In 1928, Wherry Lumber was reported to have a circular sawmill milling 25,000 feet of lumber daily from red gum, red and white oak, and shortleaf yellow pine.
The company had a smaller mill at the same time in Palestine.
Webb noted that the International & Great Northern created a stop in Anderson County about four miles from the Neches River. The stop was named after the river.
