International Paper Company

The International Paper mills in Bowie County Texas are located at Texarkana (the immediate area once the community of Domino) and at New Boston. The Domino plant, which began in 1972, is a paper mill producing bleached board and market pulp. The International Paper Co. announced in 1967 that it would build a new paper mill in Cass County along the Sulphur River below Lake Texarkana. Operations would employ 750 workers at a $6,000,000 payroll, and the plant would produce 231,000 tons of bleached board and bleached paper.
The plant was built at Domino, a suburb of Texarkana. The Texas Forest News carried an International Paper announced that its long-delayed plant would finally begin operating in early 1972. The plant would create 525 new jobs and produce an annual capacity of 300,000 tons of pulpwood. Bob Curries' article in Texas Logger in 1993 revealed that IP “at Texarkana” was receiving “[A]ll of their pulpwood, pine and hardwood” from Robertson Logging of Ore City.
