Moore & Markham

H. A. Wallis operated a sawmill and shingle mill about one and a half miles east of Wallisville, on the east of the Trinity River, during the early 1880s. On March 1, 1883, he leased “for shingle and sawmill uses and purposes” to A. B. Chamberlain and Company five acres of land “on the waters of Miller's Lake Pass.” An attempt by Chamberlain and Company to sell the mill to Leroy Jones and W. J. Swilley apparently failed that December, for the next month Charles H. Moore and William Markham bought the mill and its equipment for $4,000.
The mill may have been dismantled and sent to the Lutcher & Moore operations in Orange County.
