Whiteman-Decker Lumber Company

The Whiteman-Decker Lumber Company built a new mill at Alto in 1933 and appeared in the 1934 edition of the Lumbermen's Credit Rating Book. The Gulf Coast Lumberman obituary on W. T. Whiteman, in April, 1951, reported that W. T. Whiteman, after ending his experience in the Blount-Decker mill at Alto in 1922, later operated a “modest circular sawmill” at Alto from 1933 until he retired in 1945. This sawmill was located near the former mill site of Blount-Decker Lumber Company at Alto.
