Earle's Mill

An Earle's Mill existed in Cherokee County in the early 1900s. A. A. Atkinson, a prominent, local sawmiller, factored 100,000 feet of lumber for Earle's Mill in June 1909. A Cherokee County chattel mortgage records that on March 22, 1910, the firm of R. C. Earle and T. W. Earle mortgaged to the First National Bank at Jacksonville for $275 “6 mules, 3 log wagons, 1 sawmill.” Other county mortgage records reveal that a R. C. Earle was selling crossties in the early 1890s along the International & Great Northern. Whether or not this is the same R. C. Earle is not clear.
The Earles, on October 28, 1910, R. C. Earle and T. W. Earle mortgaged to the First National Bank at Jacksonville for $300 “6 mules, 3 log wagons, 3 road wagons, 1 sawmill.”
