John Jackson Spain
John Jackson Spain, after the close of the Civil War, ran a plantation sawmill and a cotton gin on the Rusk-Linwood Road, three miles north of Alto, at the crossing of the Rusk-Linwood road and Alto-Hatchett Ferry. The benches of the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, which are still in use, were manufactured by Spain.
