V. Slayton Patridge owned a sawmill plant in Camp County. It was enumerated in the 1880 Census. The sawmill, valued at$1,500, employed two men normally but added another three at peak rushes. The facility cut lumber year-round. The men were paid $1.00 per ten-hour day, and received a total wage of $600. The steam-powered, circular sawmill milled 300,000 board feet and 12,000 laths during the reporting period from $2,550 worth of raw materials into a gross product of $4,000. The company did its own logging, near the mill.
