Louisiana-Pacific Corporation
The Gunter Lumber Company operated a sawmill at Atlanta before 1946. That year, it sold its sawmill operation to Chester and Poindexter Grogan at Atlanta. The Directory of Texas Manufacturers, 1956-1958 lists the Atlanta Lumber Company at Atlanta, with the information that in 1947 as the firm was the sole proprietorship of P. J. Grogan. With more than fifty employees, Grogan supervised the milling of pine lumber. Sales continued to be handled by Gunter Lumber Company's marketing division. By 1957, Atlanta Lumber was building a new wood-treating plant; sales were being handled by the Trinity River Lumber Company. The mill became a division of Anthony Forest Products.
Louisiana-Pacific Corporation bought the Anthony Forest mill in October 1973. The new company kept between seventy and seventy-five employees working steadily through 1996. In 1973, the complex produced twelve million board feet from loblolly and shortleaf pine, and gum. It had a planing mill and dry kiln as well.
