Marion County Deeds of Trust reveal that a sawmill and grist mill existed in 1865 between Big and Little Cypress Bayous. It was sold that year by Mary and Ephraim Terry to J. H. Boone for $3,300. The sawmill had earlier belonged to Sutton Pettingill and Company.
