W. J. Williams & Son
W. J. Williams & Son owned and operated sawmills at Jefferson and Nard for some years.
The Nard sawmill was probably the one referred to in Marion County records as located about three miles below Jefferson on Big Cypress Bayou. In 1871 and 1872, the mill at Nard was owned by Williams and Robert Manwaring. Besides lumber milling, they also manufactured product for building boats and houses. The mill was enumerated in the 1880 Census. When the mill closed is uncertain.
H. R. Mooring, L. J. Shaffer, and W. T. Barnett gave mortgages on lumber that was being used at Williams & Manwaring for building boats. J. W. Lockhart mortgaged in order to secure lumber for building a home at Jefferson.
