Cariker & Daniel [J. W. Cariker and William Fleming Daniel]
The Nacogdoches Weekly Sentinel noted at the end of December 1902 “Mr. J. W. Cariker. . . . is putting up a saw mill near Cushing and will make his home in Nacogdoches in the near future.” It was on the south side of the Angelina River. The American Lumberman reported that he had “disposed” of this mill in January 1906, but was interested in entering the sawmill business somewhere else. The Southern Industrial and Lumber Review of September 6, 1906, still had Cariker listed as a sawmill owner in Cushing as did the 1907 listing of the LCA. Insurance policies to William Fleming Daniel reveal that he had control of the mill by 1907. Filings in the county records note that the sawmill was active until at least 1915.
