John W. (Murph)
During the census year ending June 1, 1870, John W. (Murph) ran a saw and grist mill in District 5, Nacogdoches County. The 18-horsepower steam mill cut 300,000 feet of pine lumber (valued at $4500) and produced 2200 bushels of cornmeal (valued at $1500) during the year. The owner had $3200 invested in the operation.
This mill probably evolved from the Wallace and Murph mill noted in the 1860 Census.
