J. W. Fleming
Secondary sources say that Thad Howard and Charles A. Mixon built the Howard's Switch sawmill about 1906. The mill did not appear in the January 1907 published records of the Lumbermen's Credit Association. The 1910 U.S. Census records for Newton County, researched by W.T. Block of Nederland. The Census of 1910 revealed that J. W. Fleming was the sawmill owner, and that Howard and Mixon were the sawmill superintendent and foreman, respectively. The employees lived in residences 40 to 150, Precinct I, Newton County.
