Hughes Lumber Company.
Charles Hughes, who established the firm in 1953, was manufacturing rough hardwood lumber in 1956. In 1957, Hughes Lumber Company employed between twenty-five and fifty personnel. In 1993, James E. Hughes, Sr., was president. He had forty employees. The operation was busy producing timbers, with radius and edge decking. They worked with pine: loblolly, longleaf, shortleaf, slash. Production capacity for an eight hour shift was 48,000 feet of lumber. It was listed in forest product directories through the early 1990s.
