Wiergate Lumber Company, Inc.

The Wiergate Lumber Company is a Jones family operation, beginning at Wiergate before 1966 with C. S. Jones as President. Charles W. Jones was president in 1987. The company employs between seventy and eight individuals. Equipment included lift trucks, dry kilns, scores of electric motors, compressors, and contracts lumber trucks. In 1973, the mill produced 1.4 million board feet working with loblolly, longleaf, shortleaf, and slash pine. Wiergate Lumber Company has been listed in forest-products journals and directories in the 1970s and 1980s. Texas Logger reported that the Greer Logging, Inc., firm had been logging for Wiergate Lumber Company for three generations.
