E. M. Smith
E. M. Smith built a shingle mill in 1867 on Adams Bayou with a capacity of 12,000 shingles per day. He sold it to William H. Black, who built a two-story shingle mill on Adams Bayou south of the old mill. He installed two Burt 14-block rotary machines and a swinging circular cut-off saw. His business failed, and he sold his mills to a Beaumont enterprise, which moved the machinery there.
