Lutcher & Moore Lumber Company
In 1948, The Gulf Coast Lumberman reported that officials were contemplating constructing a new Lutcher & Moore sawmill operation that would rival those of the glory days at the turn of the century. Lutcher & Moore “still owns a vast amount of second-growth timber-growing land in Texas and Louisiana both, and they plan to follow good forestry practices, selective logging, etc., and thus have indefinite supply of timber ahead.” The Texas Forest News noted in 1956 that the new sawmill had been built with a 60,000 foot daily cutting capacity. It was in production by August, 1957. The Directory of Texas Manufacturers 1956-1958 reported that the company was employing more than 100 workers. This sawmill site, if not sold earlier, would have passed into Boise Cascade assets in 1970 when Lutcher & Moore sold Boise all of its holdings.
