A. P. Wherry
According to Webb, A. P. Wherry had established a sawmill and grist mill at Long Branch before 1880. Wherry was also in the lumber business in Rusk County at nearby Pinehill. Long Branch derived its name from a long, sandy branch of the Murvaul Bayou.
