Louisiana-Pacific Corp.
In July, 1972, Georgia-Pacific announced that it would build a high-speed, small-log sawmill complex at Carthage. The three million dollar plant would produce pine lumber for the construction industry, primarily random-length dimensions and pine chips. The complex would create 100 new jobs with an annual payroll of $800,000.
By 1992, 100 employees were working with loblolly and shortleaf pine, producing select and common boards, and dry dimensions. The sawmill complex had also a planing mill and dry kiln.
