J C. Hill and M. A. Gary had a sawmill three miles south of Gary in 1900. J. C. Whitney bought 200,000 feet of lumber from the mill in August of that year. On April 24, 1902, George Davidson purchased this mill, located “3 miles S of Carthage,” according to county records, on a mortgage to the Prior Brothers for $1,400.
