Rock Island Tie and Lumber Company
According to Peebles, Rock Island and Tie Lumber Company operated for a few years at a location four miles from Moscow near a rock gully. The name of the community, Rock Island, was changed to Flora. The company was listed at Moscow in 1905. Mill was shut down for a year between 1907 and 1908, but the plant resumed operations in October 1908 with the Houston offices of W.T. Carter and Brother controlling the output.
According to The Polk County Enterprise, “About four miles from Moscow, Jim Lewis, Sol Bergman and Tom Manry formed a company and built a mill. They named it Rock Island Tie and Lumber Co.”
