Kirby Lumber Company

The Reference Book of the Lumbermen's Credit Association, January 1905 reports that the Kirby Lumber Company was a manufacturer of yellow pine lumber at Steep Creek, six and a half miles south of San Augustine. The mill lasted until the 1920s. The Southern Lumber directory in 1928 lists Kirby Lumber still at Steep Creek as well as Bronson.
\\\\A. Hayes informed V. L. Beasley that the Steep Creek operation was very large. The company provided a commissary and housing for its employees.
