Blount & Thomas

This may be a combined concern of the S. W Blount and N. G. Thomas sawmills of 1870. The 1880 Special Schedules of Manufactures, Schedules 5 and 6, list Blount & Thomas as operating a sawmill industry with a capitalization of $1200. Operating on an eight-hour daily summer and winter schedule, the six men employees were paid at the rate of $1.00 a day for a skilled mechanic and $.75 a day for unskilled labor. The annual wages paid totaled $500 for eight operational months. Raw materials were valued at $1,425 for logs and $50 for mill supplies. The mill produced 285,000 feet for a total value of $2,850
