The Beards bought on a mortgage to G. S. Mansfield for $820 a complete Winship sawmill with a 38-inch by 10-foot stationary boiler and one 24-inch DeLoach corn mill. It was not uncommon for San Augustine millers to run multi-purpose milling businesses.
