Tom J. Jeans and Jackson R. Greenage

This T. J. Jeans is not the T. W. Jeans of the Jeans Brothers sawmills in Sabine County. He is listed in the 1910 Census as a “manufacturer, sawmill,” operating in San Augustine County, in 1910, at Pct. 1, Enum. Dist. 138, res. 23. Next door at res. 24 is Jackson R. Greenage, listed also as “manufacturer, sawmill.” Jeans and Greenage are probably partners.
The 1910 Census notes Thom. W. Jeans as being a “sawmill owner” and living at Precinct 6, res. 33. Either he was still operating the sawmill at Rush/Bronson that year or he had built a new mill near Bronson.
Lance Mettauer recalled that the Jeans sawmill supplied the electrical power to San Augustine in the early days after 1900.
