George Cartwright
George Cartwright's small steam sawmill's first delivery for lumber was for “building the first county courthouse” according to a newspaper article. This courthouse was made with lumber when most others in the area were built with logs. Many of the town's buildings built with Cartwright lumber was still standing in 1932. In the census records for 1860, Cartwright's mill employed five workers and manufactured 350,000 board feet for a value of $3,500. The d capital investment was $1,000.
