Joe Elder Lumber Company
W. T. Block's oral interview with Drayton Speights, of Hemphill, Texas, revealed that the Joe Elder Lumber Company operated a 56-inch circular sawmill in Sabine County. The hardwood mill had about a ten thousand-feet capacity. It cut hardwood lumber for furniture as well as crossties. A later interview of Speights with Vernon L. Beasley generated the information that Elder later moved to Louisiana.
